That image deserves a caveat. It's the cover on AniList's entry for the TV anime, but the credit line printed on it reads SLEEPY-C, UMI, singNsong, REDICE STUDIO/LDF and RIVERSE. That's webtoon key art, not a studio's character design, so it tells you nothing about how the anime will look.

Where the 2027 and 2028 Dates Come From

Neither Aniplex nor Crunchyroll has given the Omniscient Reader anime a year. Both dates in circulation come from Com2uS, which secured publishing rights for an Omniscient Reader game and announced it in March 2025. Its May 2026 presentation listed the anime for 2027. Its August 12, 2026 presentation listed it for 2028. Anime News Network flagged both as unconfirmed.

The first date showed up in May. During its earnings call, Com2uS said its Omniscient Reader and Gachiakuta games were "slated for a 2027 release," and ANN reported that the presentation also listed the anime for 2027. ANN added a line worth reading slowly: the anime date "has not been officially confirmed by major distributors or production partners."

Then came the August presentation, Com2uS's Q2 2026 results. ANN reported that the game, developed by Offbeat for PC and console, moved to 2028, and that the anime "was also slated for 2028" on the same slides. Again, ANN said the date had not been confirmed. "Com2uS has not stated a reason for the shift."

Here's the part that's easy to miss. Com2uS publishes the game. It isn't one of the two companies named as the anime's partners in 2024. A game publisher has every reason to line up its launch with an anime, so its slides are a real signal about what it expects. They aren't an Aniplex or Crunchyroll announcement about the Omniscient Reader anime, though.

The Omniscient Reader anime release date is still unannounced, and we found nothing new from either partner since the 2024 announcement. Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy is a 2025 South Korean action fantasy film, directed by Kim Byung-woo and starring Lee Min-ho and Ahn Hyo-seop.
